Lexington Real Estate Search
Cosmopolitan yet casual, Lexington, KY offers a charming blend of big city amenities and small town friendliness. At the heart of Kentucky's Bluegrass Region, Lexington is a great place to live (of course, I live here and I'm probably a bit biased:-). When I first started working in real estate in Central Kentucky, I was surprised at how many calls I got from people around the country wanting buy a home or farm in Central Kentucky where they planned to retire. After I thought about it some, though, I realized Lexington's low crime rate, strong public school system and moderate cost of living were all key factors in the appeal of homes in the Bluegrass for people who are ready to retire.
Sometimes referred to as a "big small town", Lexington, KY still has a lot of "small town charm" despite ranking as Kentucky's 2nd largest city. Even so, it's nice to know you have easy access to other major metropolitan areas, and Lexington is located within a few hours of several great ones. Interstates I-75 and I-64 intersect in Lexington, putting us a little over an hour away from both Louisville and Cincinnati and about 3 hours from Indianapolis, Knoxville and Nashville.
Bluegrass Airport, situated right across from the lovely historic Keeneland race track on Versailles Road (here in Kentucky, we pronounce it "Vur-sales"), offers competitive fares that are frequently lower than rates in Louisville or Cincinnati. And the view on the approach to Lexington's airport can't be beat -- stunning views of world-renowned Calument Horse Farm.
The real estate market here is a relatively stable one, despite the volatility of the last decade. Real estate/home prices did see a decrease after the crash, but it was not as severe as it was in most parts of the country and, as of 2014, the real estate market seems to have stabilized substantially with prices drifting up again in the most desirable neighborhoods. Even so, home prices are still quite moderate in Lexington, Kentucky compared with many other parts of the country and if you enjoy lush rolling hills, a friendly atmosphere and the ability to get to most places in the city within 15 minutes, Lexington, KY may be an idea place for you to call home!
